Santipur College, established in 1948 by the initiative of the legendary social reformer and the then Member of Parliament Pandit Lakshmi Kanta Maitra, is one of the oldest and premier co-educational educational institutions in the district of Nadia which continues to impart quality education at the graduate level to its umpteenth of pupils. It is well connected by both rail and road (NH-34) from Kolkata.
The College has been recognized by the UGC since 1969 and is presently affiliated to the University of Kalyani since 2000. It has already been assessed and accredited by NAAC with B+ in 2007. It is a general degree college and offers undergraduate courses (Honours, General and Major) in arts, science and commerce streams. The College authority with the devotion of its entire staff is committed to cater the best education to all its students most of which come from the very poor weaving family and some of them are also first generation learners.
The institution feels immense pride with its intelligent, hard working and devoted teaching faculty as well as non-teaching members. Apart from taking routine theoretical classes and conducting laboratory experiments and project works for the students, the teaching faculty of this College deeply indulge themselves in research activities and continuously publishing their research outcome in different peer-reviewed National and International journals of repute. Some of our faculties have been awarded research projects funded by the UGC and other funding agencies. Laboratory rooms, apt for such fundamental research in our institution are badly needed. In spite of some infrastructural hiccups, our faculties are working hard so that the students can imbibe innovative research ideas for their future advancement. We feel really proud of one of our Chemistry students who after completing his master degree from IIT, Kanpur went to Germany for pursuing his Ph.D. degree; similarly two students from department of Physics have joined VECC, Kolkata and SINP, Kolkata very recently for their research activities. The students of our College have continued their dazzling performance in different sections of sports this year also. They have added twenty one more feathers to crown of this College, out of which ten from Kalyani University 50th Annual Athletic Meet 2014-2015 where our College has also been declared as ‘Group-Champion’ and eleven from Non-Govt. division(s). With the commitment of imparting quality education to the pupils towards building an educated and rational social structure and a strong moral character, all our faculty members are striving hard with limited infrastructural facilities, though a ‘Smart Class’ facility has been introduced very recently. The college alumni boast off well-established students settled not only different parts of our country but also in a few cities abroad. Our past students therefore create enough enthusiasm to convert our present into an even more glorious future. It is worthy to be recognized here that six recently past students of department of Mathematics of Santipur College and also of Santipur area have joined as Assistant Professors in different Colleges of West Bengal as per recommendation by the WBCSC in 2014. The talented and committed faculties and efficient staff of our College are dedicated to reach the zenith. Our dream, vision and mission are the absolute advancement of Santipur College and to make it pertinent in the academic map of India and thus an integral part of the global educational society. We believe in ourselves, our confidence and our constant toil towards achieving our ultimate goals of imparting quality education through proper and systematic teaching. We believe in Swami Vivekananda who once said “Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached.”
